The following photos are a small excerpt from my semester abroad in Accra, Ghana. I don't really know how to describe it all. On the one hand there is a lot of poverty and unpleasant things to see and on the other hand there are very rich people. Between these two sides there is a huge part that is completely normal. Normal life. Normal job. Normal everyday life. Normal people. This has been my biggest realization since I've been here. Away from the stereotypical thought “In Africa there is only poverty, and a lot of suffering”, yes that’s true, but there is so much more. Just like in Germany, Australia and all other countries there is poverty and suffering, but also the “normal” and the “rich”. So much for that.
About the photos: There are a lot of cars to be seen, because I am now very integrated into the car scene in Accra, which gives me the opportunity to get to know the people behind the cars and because I think cars are great :)
The other part of the photos are smaller projects. The surf/beach photos were all taken in Kokrobite, as were the fishing photos. The footballers are part of the team called "JISH" short for "Jubilee Hall & International Students Hostel (ISH)". Every year at the University of Ghana there is a tournament between the individual student residences and I took photos of the JISH team and also played and trained with them. The tournament not only features football but also basketball, volleyball, field hockey and tennis, as can be seen below. The tennis player was my roommate, better known as Julius (USA). The photos of the football stadium and the car photos underneath were taken in Togo at the car show in Lome.
A few more photos will be added over time.
